What do Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, Lance Armstong, Joe Montana, Donovan Bailey, John McEnroe and millions of other professional and amateur athletes have in common? They all utilize chiropractic care as a way of maximizing their performance, and many attribute their success to chiropractic.
Dan O’Brien, three time Olympic decathlon gold medalist, is considered the greatest athlete in the world. In his own words, “If it were not for chiropractic, I would not have won the Gold Medal”. Arnold Schwarzenegger states: "Bodybuilders and fitness people have been using chiropractic very extensively in order to stay healthy and fit. I found it was better to go to a chiropractor before you get injured… chiropractic doctors are really miracle workers." Tiger Woods is also a big fan: “I’ve been going to chiropractors for as long as I can remember. It’s as important to my training as practicing my swing.” WOW! Utah Jazz, the NBA team with the oldest players, is also the most injury-free team of the league. Their secret? They have their own team chiropractor. A full 77% of NFL trainers refer players to chiropractors, and 31% of NFL teams have a chiropractor on staff.
Research has also been done on the effects of chiropractic on athletic ability. A study measuring agility, balance, power and reaction time showed up to 30% improvement in these areas. Another study showed a positive correlation between chiropractic and athletic performance in vertical jump, broad jump, muscle strength and more. In addition to the above improvements, the chiropractic group showed significant improvement in blood supply and oxygenation of tissues. Impressive, don’t you think? So what does this all mean for you, the amateur and weekend athletes, and your children? It just means that by seeing your chiropractor and getting your nervous system working its best, you can be your best at any activity you decide to enjoy, whether it’s golf, soccer, baseball, football or any other sport. The pros do it, why don’t you? With all these summer activities coming, get started today.

Wayne came to our office primarily for a second opinion and to check any body imbalances. Wayne is a runner but has deviated toes and dropped metatarsals (the long bones of the foot) with huge calluses built up under his second and third toes. Running was getting painful. Walking to the shower on the hard locker room floor after a run was “just a killer”. We adjusted his toes, metatarsals and arches. We recommended he wear his orthotics for running. Wayne can’t believe the difference; he is in way less pain and can walk without limping. Wayne used to need a sock above his toes because they were so deviated they needed to curl upward to fit and this hurt in his shoes. Already his toes are sitting down and in better alignment so he no longer needs this sock. He ran 8 miles outside on Saturday and 4 miles Sunday on a treadmill and Monday came in feeling 1000 times better and he said it’s “unbelievable” the difference. Wayne is well on his way to reaching his goal: to be running when he is 100 years old. We look forward to participating in Wayne’s achievement of this goal!
Tomas Truba is the star player of the LCI Rams football team. He owns the most touchdowns and distance for his team and is line for league MVP! Tomas comes and gets adjusted before the big game because he says it enhances how well he plays, his coordination, and reflexes. According to research, athletes who get adjusted have shown a 30% improvement in agility, balance, power and reaction time. Congratulations Tomas, keep up the good work!
Chiropractic has benefited Jordan Laturnus in many different ways. Jordan loves playing sports, especially soccer. In the last few years he has started playing competitively, and he started having problems with his feet, ankles, and knees with so much activity, to the point that he could hardly run. With chiropractic adjustments, he is able to play soccer without pain and he gets regular adjustments to keep his body aligned and working well. He is a star player too! Jordan`s palate was so narrow that he was going to have six teeth pulled out to make room for the remaining teeth that could not grow. After cranial adjustments, no teeth need to be pulled! Thank you Jordan for being such a great chiropractic patient and a great kid!
Joey was a professional hockey and of course his body had taken tons of abuse. Quite a few years ago after raking leaves all day his shoulders were so bad he could barely lift a fork to eat dinner. After four months of physiotherapy with no results and some huge prodding from his wife, Joey decided to try chiropractic in March 1996. His goal was to play golf or take a slapshot without screeching pain. After one year he could play golf and hockey without pain. His golf game even improved twelve strokes he felt because of his increased range of motion in his shoulders.
Joey is still a regular patient at our clinic. He is asthmatic and he finds he uses his inhaler less with regular adjustments. Presently, he suffers low back pain from a very physical job and looks forward to his next adjustments. Joey is a patient whose body has some chronic problems from years in sports. Do we “fix” him or “cure” him of anything…No, but we take a lot of pressure off some nerves; we get his joints moving better and yes his body functions 100% better.
