Why Chiropractic

The four major premises of chiropractic are:

  • The body is a self-healing, self-regulating system: health comes from within.
  • The nervous system controls and regulates every function of the body
  • An interference to the nervous system (i.e. vertebral subluxation) reduces the self-healing and self-regulating ability of the body thus reducing health
  • Correction of the vertebral subluxation by a chiropractic adjustment restores optimal nervous system function and optimal health/wellness

A Chiropractor's Education

To be a chiropractor takes seven years of university. After an average of three years of university pre-requisites, students then attend a specialized chiropractic institution for four years where they receive the same amount or more education as one would in a medical school program. The courses of study for a Doctor of Chiropractic focus on anatomy, physiology, radiology, neurology, orthopedics, and various other health and biological sciences. In addition, chiropractic training includes an internship in which the student doctor assists in caring for patients in a clinical setting under the direct supervision of professionals. After graduating from Chiropractic College, a new Doctor must pass national board exams and provincial license exams before he or she is allowed to practice in that province.

Who is Chiropractic For?

Chiropractic is for everyone! With today's growing health awareness toward prevention and wellness, chiropractic is playing an integral role in maintaining and improving one's health and vitality. From birth to seniors, the importance of maintaining a healthy nervous system is imperative to creating 100% health within the body. In addition, research has shown that anyone who suffers from recurring symptoms, such as ear infections, neck or back pain, headaches, stomach upset, menstrual cramps, asthma, insomnia, ADHD, colic, high blood pressure or any number of similar problems can benefit from specific chiropractic adjustments. Chiropractic is a health care profession dedicated to the maintenance and restoration of a healthy, aligned, and uncompromised nervous system, which produces a healthy body. Just as you would visit a dentist for a check-up to keep a small problem from growing into a serious problem, regular visits to the chiropractor can maintain proper health and prevent problems before they progress.

Your health depends on a properly functioning nervous system! Chiropractic is a science, art and philosophy which concerns itself with the relationship between the nervous system/spinal column and the function of the body's organs, tissues and cells. Science understands that the nervous system is the master control system for your whole body, and therefore the healthier the nervous system, the healthier your body will be. When there is a misalignment to one or more of the vertebrae in your spinal column, known as a vertebral subluxation, pressure and/or inflammation can disrupt the normal flow of information within the nervous system, thus causing degradation of health and vitality. These subluxations are caused by physical, chemical and mental stress. Research shows that such subluxations are commonly caused as early as birth and can continue throughout one's lifetime. Only Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to locate and correct vertebral subluxations.

Chiropractic does not use drugs, medicine, or invasive tools and procedures. Chiropractic is the largest, drugless, natural healing profession in the world. Chiropractic is a health care profession which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery.

Workplace Wellness Talks

Our Doctors have designed a series of four talks on Wellness for Businesses in the Lethbridge area as part of our corporate outreach initiative. We would like you to consider us as a potential stakeholder in the wellness of your business and the wellness of our community as a whole. Studies show that more and more workplaces are aware of the benefits of providing staff with Health and Wellness information.

“Canadian research into cost-effectiveness of worksite health promotion and disease prevention programs shows a return of $1.75 to $6.85 for every corporate dollar invested based on reduced employee turnover, greater productivity and decreased medical claims by participating employees.”

While some businesses offer talks, others go on to set up Health and Wellness Programs. If you would like to get a conversation started in your workplace around the issues of stress, nutrition and back care we offer a series of ongoing engaging talks. Contact us for more details.

Three Secrets of Stress Management

Stress

Major corporations have recognized that stress management training can be extremely cost effective. It reduces employee absenteeism, work injuries, health costs, worker turnover and lawsuits. Plus it improves quality and productivity. In fact, 40% of employee turnover is due to job stress and the average costs for replacing a skilled worker are between $2,000 to $13,000 for each worker. Dr. Gaulin presents a compelling 45 minute talk that focuses on the essential elements that create stress and how your employees can start to identify sources of stress, reduce and manage it more efficiently!

Safe Back Care in the Workplace

Construction Workers and safe back care

A new talk was designed by Dr. Gaulin after a request from a local business in Lethbridge last fall. Based on observation of workers doing manual labour Dr. Gaulin has combined his knowledge of the optimal state of the spine and nervous system with his insight as to how to keep the active back safe in the workplace. In his 45 minute talk he also addresses the ways in which to keep the back safe if you are sitting at the desk all day doing paper work or computer work as sedentary mis-alignment of the spine can also create long term problems. Includes a simple, proven fitness program, nutrition and weight loss tips, and an introduction to stress management.

Nutrition for Health in the Workplace

Eating healthy in the work place

Dr. Harper gives a 45 minute talk designed to empower your employees with knowledge of how what one eats effects one's state of health. Good nutrition is key to remaining healthy and happy in our personal lives and at work. A healthy corporate philosophy is one that believes that employee health is an integral part of the business and that people are an organization’s most important resource. Concern and care for the health of people is essential to achieve business success as healthy employees enhance an organization’s competitive position. In fact, a change in individual employee health metrics can be an early indicator of changes in other aspects of business performance. Since people are motivated to adopt values that are emphasized by their organizational leaders why not take a leadership role and have Dr. Harper speak on the role of a good diet in avoiding illness and stress. Workplace Nutrition for Weight Loss

Many office jobs these days have employees spending most of their time staring at a computer monitor seldom leaving their desks. This combined with the stress of deadlines, workloads, and overtime can lead to weight gain unless one is aware of good dietary practices and nutrition. Dr. Harper presents a 45 minute talk designed to empower your employees about how the maintenance of a healthy weight, acceptable blood cholesterol and blood pressure levels are all affected by eating habits.
